As hip hop's reigning diva Lauryn Hill gets set to embark on what will likely be a stellar, sold out tour, she has been hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Four musicians, Vada Nobles, Johari Newton, Tejumold Newton and Rasheem Pugh claimed that they wrote and produced most of the tracks on Lauryn's landmark lp 'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill'. They also accuse Ms Hill of not properly crediting them on her album and with holding payment.
The plantiffs are seeking 2-3 million dollars in Lauryn's estimated $6 million dollars in earnings. There has been widespread speculation as to whether or not the four musicians suing Ms Hill are doing so as a way to get rich quick. They noted that they audio tapes and other types of evidence to support their claims. It will be an interesting turn of events when this suit comes to light because Lauryn made a big point about asserting her creative independence when doing on her album. She had noted in several interviews about how proud she was that she had produced the majority of the tracks. We'll keep you posted as things develop.
